The morning session focuses on Specialist Safety while in the “field”. Topics include: observing body language, personal awareness (of our own triggers and feelings), remaining calm, identifying and assessing potential risk factors, work place violence, and potential indicators of methamphetamine labs.
The afternoon session emphasizes Specialist Self Care, defining secondary and vicarious trauma and exploring how that impacts individuals. The training is designed to provide tools for specialists to help them.
The training illustrates that DHS Child Welfare Services is a trauma informed agency that values safety not only for clients, but also for staff.
